I attended three Senior Proms. No. Despite certain perceptions, I was not on the six year plan at MVHS. I was privileged to be invited to two other Senior proms. However, I will focus on my senior prom since it was THE prom and the one that I took my lovely and gracious first (and only) wife too.
Memorable Song: The band played Carly Simon's, "That's The Way I Always Heard It Should Be". I immediately fell in love with the song. Every time I hear the song, I remember slow dancing with my lovely future wife while the band played the song.
Memorable Event: My future wife and I attend my Senior Prom with Dave Symmonds and his date. Our pre-prom dinner was at the Emperor

Since Michelle was willing to admit she didn't go (GOOD FOR YOU)- I second that. I actually didn't date at all until I went to college (and then made up some for lost time). I was probably 20 lbs overweight in high school and I was just happy not to be taunted. I hung with people for whom dances were not on the radar screen. Back then, I was probably sad that it wasn't a memory I was making but 30 years later what does it matter? I was hardly scarred for life.
On the other hand, I've always encouraged my children to take a friend and go so they would have that memory - and they pretty much went to all the big dances with friends they were not dating at the time. We do a junior/senior prom in Sherwood. Last year my daughter went with a gay friend and she (and her friends) all agree she had the best experience - not a date, no pressure. This year she will either go with the gay guy again, or with her on-again, off-again boyfriend. I wish I had had the guts to do that 30 years ago. Of course back then, no one was admitting to being gay. I should say that we live in a small town (classes of about 170) and the kids have all known each other since grade school. 500 people in our class really makes a difference I think.
Sorry, I'm rambling.... gotta go post on ebay now. It's a 20 cent listing day - look me up under the username Rubberbum. (The name is really not what you're thinking - shame on you)

In my feeble attempt to be funny by mentioning three proms and the fact that I was NOT on the six year high school plan, I now realize that it may have come across as bragging that I attended three proms. While my stature in the eyes of my fellow classmates was, no doubt, greatly improved by the beautiful ladies that I attended the proms with, here's what the circumstances were:
'76 Prom: A friend forgot to ask for time off for the prom and, on the NIGHT of the prom, calls me and asks if I can cover for him. I was very privileged to escort a beautiful young lady to her senior prom. I guess the downside to that was that all I could wear to it was the infernal Concert Choir leisure suit since it was the nicest thing I owned at the time!
'77 Prom: I already covered that in my original post but I'll reiterate that its the only "romantic" date to a prom that I participated in.
'78 Prom: A friend had broken up with her boyfriend who was going to take her to the prom. Not wanting her to miss her senior prom, I offered to take her to it. I had a good time and I certainly hope that she did, too.

| I went to the 75 Senior Prom with my boyfriend(we were "promised"). It was really nice. I remember being very nervous because everyone was older, now, two years hardley seems older. We went for dinner first at a steak house called Treulics. The song I remember was "The best of my love" by the Eagles....that was our song. I did not go to my senior prom since I was too busy partying elswhere. Probably should have gone to the prom instead.

I was too caught up in the party scene to go, anyway I looked so darn childish back then ( the keebler elf monicker fit back then ) I did not think any of the girls I liked back then would have said yes either that or they already were going with someone. I had a couple of crushes on girls I either new were untouchable or I thought were untouchable!
Then thier were those I was just to scared to ask lol I guess I did not have much confidence back then.
Things sure changed after High School lol
